My husband had Monday off, so we spent the three-day weekend visiting my parent's. When we got home Monday afternoon, he put up a ceiling fan in the office with the help of Fiona. While they were busy on the ladder, I finally took the time to pot two palms we had purchased from Sam's over a month ago.
The lovely brown spots and trimmed leaves are courtesy of the cats who think the palms are their personal snacking ground. Hopefully now that they sit a little higher they won't be so inclined to nibble on the poor palms.
Years ago I remember reading a tip in Martha Stewart Living about using packing peanuts to fill planters, and I finally got a chance to try it. I didn't have enough packing peanuts saved up so I also used some other packing material I had on hand. I'll be curious to see how well it works because I'm sure the air bags will deflate with time and I can also see the peanuts getting moldy. But we'll see.
Next I'd like to put something on top of the soil to discourage my special kitties from jumping in and out of the pot and making a mess. I think they're just trying to prepare me for kids.
Haha, we have never had cats but I hear they get into everything! Let me know if the packing peanuts work out for you - what a brilliant idea.
